How we started
Pirate Camp Co wasn’t built in a boardroom — it was built in the workshop, on dusty tracks, and around campfires.
Founder James has been chasing adventure since he was a kid. Whether it was modifying cars, heading bush, or planning the next escape, the outdoors wasn’t just a hobby — it was a way of life.
Growing
In 2003, James began his boilermaker apprenticeship, learning the craft that would become the backbone of Pirate Camp Co. By 2006, he was a qualified tradesman, and with that came a deep respect for hard work, quality fabrication, and the importance of supporting Australian manufacturing and local jobs.
Then came the turning point.
In 2011, James bought his first 4x4 — and instantly fell in love with the touring lifestyle. The freedom, the challenge, the remote destinations… but also the frustrations that every seasoned traveller knows too well:
Poor storage.
Wasted space.
Gear that didn’t quite work the way it should.
Instead of accepting it, he decided to build something better.
In 2016, James launched his own fabrication business with one clear vision — design and manufacture practical, high-quality products for the 4x4 and camping community. Starting small with collapsible fire pits, every dollar earned was reinvested into better equipment, better capability, and bigger ideas.
Then, on a cold winter night in 2018, sitting around a campfire with his wife and a mate — and after a fair few beers — the name Pirate Camp Co was born.
